During the pandemic, I decided to fulfill a lifetime ambition and write a book. I quickly outgrew my initial scope — a history of the entire European Cup — due to the depth of the material, so I focused on the period from 1955 to 1969. In my opinion, these are the defining years of European, and subsequently Global, club football.

This website was a place for people who read the book to get in touch. The book, unfortunately, did not allow me to retire and spend long days by the fire reading old copies of World Soccer. So I have a website with no real purpose and a book with no real sales. As a result, here's the book, copied and pasted, chapter by chapter.

At any point, you can come back here and buy it if you want a real copy, but mainly I just hope you might enjoy some of the great stories I discovered along the way.

Aberdeen FC

When I'm not buried in European Cup history, I'm following the Dons. I write about Aberdeen — match analysis, tactics, and data — on my Substack, and run AFC 1903, a stats project tracking the club season by season.
